to solve this system of equation using substitution method we would say that

let

y=x+1.75 ............................................. equation 1

4x-2y=4 ............................................. equation 2

substitute equation 1 into equation 2

4x - 2( x + 1.75) = 4

4x - 2x - 3.5 = 4

2x - 3.5 = 4

collect the like terms

2x = 4 + 3.5

2x = 7.5

divide both sides by the coefficient of x which is 2

2x/2 = 7.5/2

x = 3.75

put the value of x into equation 1

y=x+1.75 ............................................. equation 1

y = 3.75 + 1.75

y = 5.5

therefore the value of x = 3.75 and y = 5.5 respectively.
