After reading the article by William A. Gamson ("Commitment and Agency in Social Movements"), describe how the anti-Vietnam movement in the United States involved collective identity processes. What distinction does Gamson make between "collective identity" and "solidarity" (see pp. 45-47)?

Collective identity is an interactive and shared definition produced by a number of individuals (or groups, at a more complex level) that concerns the orientations of their actions and the field of opportunities and constraints in which this action takes place .

Solidarity is the action of being kind to others, assuming the role of collaborator.

Therefore, being supportive consists in helping others, with good intentions and generosity.

In this way, solidarity is legitimate, without any discrimination.

That is, there must be compassion and concrete understanding of the feelings of others and a genuine purpose to contribute, without expecting something in return.
