David was new on the job and wanted some direction. He wanted someone to

tell him what to do so he wouldn't have to think about it. In other words, he
wanted his supervisor to have a director style of leadership. David knew his
supervisor could easily instruct him on what decisions to make. However, his
supervisor often let David decide how he would manage his workload. What
might be a reason for David's supervisor not wanting to tell him what to do on
every occasion?

Answer: because he feels David has to learn to do it himself and can’t have him do everything for him.
