Answer:

8 and 17

Explanation:

Let x = 1st number

y = 2nd number

x = 2y+1

x+y =25

Substitute into the second equation x=2y+1 for x

x+y =25

(2y+1) +y = 25

Combine like terms

3y+1 = 25

Subtract 1 from each side

3y+1-1 =25-1

3y = 24

Divide by 3 on each side

3y/3 =24/3

y =8

x =2y+1

x = 2(8)+1

x=17
