Suppose there are 30 people in a jury pool and the final jury will consist of 12 of these people. Suppose that among the 30, there are 17 whites and 13 non-whites. And suppose that the jury ends up being all white. What is the probability of this happening, if all possible 12-person juries has been equally likely?

Answer:

Explanation:

Total number of people, n = 30

number of white people = 17

number of non white people = 13

number of selected person which are white = 12

So, the number of ways to select the 12 white people out of 17 white people

=
^(12)C_(17)=(17!)/(12!* 5!)=6188

the number of ways to select 12 white people out of total 30 people

^(30)C_(12)=(30!)/(12!* 18!)=86410772.88

So, the probability to select 12 white people out of 30 people is

(6188)/(86410772.88)=7.2* 10^(-5)
