A new kind of pet is in the market has fur color that is regulated by 5 unlinked genes F, G, H, I and J which are enzymes. Each enzyme converts one compound into a different one. Allele F converts the colorless 1 compound into a red compound. Allele G converts colorless 2 into yellow. Allele H converts colorless 1 into colorless 2. I converts colorless 2 to red. Allele J converts red into yellow. When both the red and yellow compounds are produced animals are orange. Which pathway (1 or 2) is correct if F, G, H, I and J are completely dominant to f, g, h, i and j and animals with an F_ G_H_I_J_ pet was orange?

Answer:

Pathway 2 will be correct with an Orange fur animal with Ff Gg Hh Ii Jj genotype.

Step-by-step explanation:

  • Pathway 2 will produce both Red and yellow color and according to the question, both red and yellow color will end up with having Orange fur color. So, pathway 2 is correct.
  • Orange color fur is desired here and F G H I J are dominant to f g h i and j. So, the most favorable genotype will be Ff Gg Hh Ii Jj.
