How to calculate the volume and surface area of composite shapes

Composite shapes are the combination of two or more shapes combined together.

The composite shape given is made up of a hemisphere and a cone

Volume of the composite shape = 2/3πr³ + 1/3πr²h
Volume of the composite shape = 1/3πr²(2r+h)

Volume of the composite shape = 1/3(3.14)(5)²(2(5)+12)

Volume of the composite shape = 1/3(3.14)(5)²(22)
Volume of the composite shape = 575.6cm³

Hence the volume of the composite shape is 575.6cm³

Calculate the surface area

Surface area = πr(r+l) + 3π r²

Surface area = 3.14(5)(13+5) + 3(3.14)(25)
Surface area = 282.6 + 235.5 = 518.1 square cm

Hence the surface area of the composite figure is 518.1 square cm
