NO (g) + O3 (g) ------> NO2 (g) + O2 (g)

The above reaction is first order with respect to both NO and O3 concentrations. The rate of reaction when concentration of NO = 1.3 M and concentration of O3 = 1.4 M was determined to be 6,024 M.h-1? Determine the rate constant for this reaction in M-1. hr-1.

Answer:

K = 3.30989 M-1.h-1

Step-by-step explanation:

balanced reaction:

  • NO(g) + O3(g) → NO2(g) + O2(g)
  • - r = K [NO][O3]................order = 1

∴ [NO] = 1.3 M

∴ [O3] = 1.4 M

∴ - r = 6.024 M/h

the rate constant:

⇒ K = (6.024 M/h) / ((1.4 M)(1.3 M))

⇒ K = 3.30989 M-1.h-1
