Answer:

An exponent is a number that is to a certain value, like 5^2.

The ^2 means multiply by itself by itself ONCE,

so it would be 5x5.

5^3 means multiply it by itself TWO TIMES,

and going on and on.

Let's say you have a test and the question it's asking is to simplify 5^4.

It's 5x5x5x5, multiplying it by itself FIVE TIMES.
