A conductor carrying a current I = 14.6 A is directed along the positive x axis and perpendicular to a uniform magnetic field. A magnetic force per unit length of 0.119 N/m acts on the conductor in the negative y direction.

Answer

Given,

Current, I = 14.6 A

magnetic force per unit length = 0.119 N/m

Magnitude of magnetic field = B = ?

a) F = ILB sin θ

θ = 90°

So,

(F)/(L)=IB

0.119=14.6* B

B = (0.119)/(14.6)

B = 0.00815\ T

B = 8.15\ mT

b) The direction of magnetic field is in +z direction.
