A simple energy conservation argument can be made as follows: if 100% of the calories we eat are metabolized, there is no excess energy to be stored as fat and we do not gain weight. However, if we consume fewer calories than our body requires, we will lose weight as our body uses fat reserves. Based on the values you obtained in this lab, how many calories a day should you eat to avoid losing or gaining any weight if you climb the stairs for 15 minutes every day and then rest the remainder of the day?

Answer:

The amount of resting calories we need in a day is based largely upon two factors i.e., our physical activity rate as well as our basal metabolic rate (BMR). For example, a 120 kg male burns about 1970 calories at rest per day. So, he needs to consume this much calories to maintain his weight or cur bout 500 calories to lose 1 Pound per week. According to the presented 15 minutes of stair climbing, the same man need about 2100 calories to maintain his weight. This is because the stair climbing add the calorie needs of about 91-115 more calories.
