You have responded to a store customer who collapsed. Your primary assessment indicated she was in cardiac arrest and you have started CPR. Another employee has gone to activate EMS and get an AED. Describe the basic guidelines for performing CPR in this situation.

- Call 911 or ask someone else.

- Ask for assistance from onlookers or any health care provider around

- Make the area/sorrounding safe for you and for the casualty.

- place casualty on a flat firm surface on the back

- Assess the airways by performing a head tilt chin lift manauver.

- Check the pulse rate via the femoral or carotid artery.

- Kneel by the casulaty's side and chest out to gain more stamina.

- Place the heel of your left hand on the centre of the chest of the casualty between the nipples and place your right hand on top of your left hand and interlock your fingers

- Push hard in the centre of the chest to a depth of 2 - 2.4 inches for an adult.

- Deliver 30 chest compressions with 2 rescue breaths in one (1) minute.

- Keep going until medical help arrives or the casualty regains consciousness.

CPR is known as Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and it is done when there is a cardiac emergency to save a life.

The steps involved in this process include :

1. Laying the person on the back with the head facing upwards.

2. The airways should be opened and presence of breathing should be checked.

3. 30 chest compressions should be done followed by 2 rescue breaths.

4. The number 3 process should be repeated till the other employees activate the EMS(Emergency medical Service) and get the AED(Automated external defibrillator).
