Hello there,

So I am assuming that the question would be what is the new equation of the graph. In order to find that out you would need to write down what you already know...

- the graph is y = IxI

- its shifted down 6 units

- its shifted to the left 9 units

okay so when a transformation is moving the graph left or right, the transformation is happening to the x-value. So the x value would be inside the absolute value function so when you write the equation down, the 9 would be on the inside. However you have got to remember that when we move to the left the integer is + and when we move to the right the integer is -.

  • y = Ix + 9I

Now when the graph is moved up or down the transformation is happening to the y-value which would be outside the absolute value sign.

  • y = IxI -6

Now we put the two together and you will get...

y = Ix + 9I - 6

Hope I helped,

Amna
