It can help you do better whether that is good for everyone or good for yourself depends on your intentions the founding fathers looked back on other governments based around some of the basic principles and looked at what caused them to fail and crumble from within and fixed their mistakes while many corrupt governments or groups have taken notes from organizations like mobs Nazis and gangs to shortcut the learning curve and become a successful and better at their desired task

Explanation: Looking at the past can make us do better in the future because as a saying goes " When we miss a road, it enable us know a road", therefore mistakes of yesterday can be corrected and the future will be fine.

Ignoring looking at the mistakes or errors of the past will leave one prone to dambling into such unknowingly thereby same mistake repeated and it is only a fool that doesn't learn from his mistakes.
