Otis paints the interior of a home for $45 per hour plus $75 for supplies. Shireen paints the interior of a home for $55 per hour plus $30 for supplies. The equations give the total cost for x hours of work for each painter. For how many hours of work are Otis's and Shireen's costs equal? What is the cost for this number of hours? Y= 45x + 75 - Otis Y= 55x + 30 - Shireen

Explanation:

you should only make one equation:

75 + 45x = 30 + 55x

subtract the 30 frim both sides, then subtract 45x from both sides. you are left with:

45 = 10x

Divide by 10 and get:

4.5 = x

After 4.5 hours, the cost is equal for either worker.

Answer:

The cost will be equal at 4.5 hrs

Explanation:

Otis paints the interior of a home for $45 per hour plus $ 75. Shireen paints the interior of a home for $ 55 per hour plus $30.

The total cost Y of Otis and Shireen's for x hours are

Y= 45x + 75

Y= 55x + 30

For the cost to be equal

45x + 75 = 55x + 30

collect like terms

75 - 30 = 55x - 45x

45 = 10x

divide both sides by 10

x = 45/10

x = 4.5 hrs

The cost will be equal at 4.5 hrs
