A one way, two-lane road is shared by buses and cars. Buses travel at speed 40 mph and carry 20 people. Cars travel at speed 60 mph and carry 2 people. The fraction of vehicles that are buses passing a stationary observer is 0.2. Answer the following questions: (a) What is the average vehicle occupancy seen by a stationary observer? a) since I the fraction of buses passing a stationary observer is 0.2 that means for every 10 vehicles,2 buses are seen. Therefore for every 1 bus seen 4 cars are seen

Average=[ 20+(2×4)]/ 5

=28/5

=5.6 vehicle occupancy

B) since the fraction of vehicles seen by stationary observer is 0.2

Therefore a fraction of 2 buses from an Aerial photography would be for buses.
