Explanation:

Since we have an equation that is set equal to why with x in it, we can multiply it by 2 to get 6x-2=2y.

We can then plug that in for 2 +2y in the equation above, giving us 3x+6x-2=16 or 9x-2=16.

From there we add 2 to both sides and get 9x=18.

Then divide both sides by 9 to get x=2.

Then plug x=2 in for the equation below and get 6-1, or 5.

Giving us our answers, x=2 and y=5
