Answer:

10 and 7

Explanation:

Let the numbers be A and B

The sum of the two numbers is 17.

That’s

A + B = 17

The difference of the numbers is 3

A - B = 3

We now have two equations

1. A + B = 17

2 . A - B = 3

Subtract equation two from equation one.

B - - B = B + B = 2B

2B = 14

Divide both sides by 2

2B/2 = 14/2

B = 7

Now substitute 7 for B into either of the equations to get A.

Using equation 1 we have

A + B = 17

A + 7 = 17

Subtract 7 from both sides

A - 7 = 17 - 7

A = 10

The numbers are 10 and 7
