Mr. Fugawa presents to the ED with complaints of headaches and intermittent fevers for the passed week, onset after the extraction of an infectious molar. PMH elicited that he was in a MVA where he did not sustain any serious injuries. While awaiting to see the doctor, Mr. Fugawa has a seizure. A brain abscess was confirmed with a MRI. What may be the primary cause of his brain abscess?

Answer:

A direct extension of the infectious molar

Step-by-step explanation:

A brain abscess is also known as cerebral abscess. and it is known to be caused by collection or accumulation of infected substances or materials in the brain.

Examples of the things that accumulate in the brain to cause a brain abscess are bacteria, live and dead fungi, infected white blood cells, infected brain cells among others.

In this case, the brain abscess in the client, which resulted to a seizure is a direct extension of the infectious molar. This is because, it has been discovered that a tooth infection is a primary cause of pus accumulation in the brain.

Answer:

From the option given the correct option is option b

Step-by-step explanation:

A. MVA

B. A direct extension of the infectious molar

C. Waiting too long in the ED to be seen

D. From a distant site of undiscovered infection

The option A is not a correct option as a Motor Vehicle Accident with no serious injuries is not a likelihood of the brain abscess as confirmed by the MRI.

The option B can be correct as the infectious molar can cause the abscess to develop in the brain.

The option C is not correct as there is an underlying cause which has caused this abscess. Waiting in the ED can only aggravate the situation which is not a case here.

The option D which indicate the distant site of an undiscovered infection can be an option.

So the two possible answers are Option B and D.

Now the likelihood of the undiscovered distant infection is less as if the infection is not discovered yet, it is very rare that it would affect the brain first so the correct option remaining by the process of elimination is option B.
