The two consecutive integers are 2 and 3.

Explanation:

Step 1 :

Given,

the sum of 2 consecutive integer is equal to than the smaller integer multiplied by 3 minus 1.

Let p and q represent the 2 consecutive integers.

then we have q = p + 1

and p + q = 3p -1

Step 2 :

Solving the above 2 equations we have,

p + p+ 1 = 3 p - 1

2 p + 1 = 3 p -1

3p - 2p = 2

p = 2

So q = p + 1 = 2 + 1 = 3

The two integers are 2 and 3

sum of the 2 integers = 5

three times the smaller integer - 1 = 3 × 2 - 1 = 6 -1 = 5

Hence the given conditions are satisfied.

Step 3:

Answer :

The two consecutive integers are 2 , 3.
