Let's say we have 2x-y=4, and 4x-3=5y. So, elimination is basically what the name is. You eliminate one variable by subtracting and then plug in that variable to find the other one. So,

4x-3=5y

2x-y=4

Multiply 2x-y=4 by 2, to make it equal to the x value in the top.

4x-3=5y

4x-2y=8

Now, you can subtract the equations. You Eliminate the 4x, then you get

-3-2y=5y-8

Then you solve for y

y=7/5

then you plug y into the equation

4x-3 = (7/5)5

4x-3=7

4x=10

x=5/2

And you have your solution ----> (5/2, 7/5) is where the lines intersect.
