Answer:

The major difference between infrared waves and visible light is size of the wavelength. Infrared waves tend to have greater wavelengths as compared to visible light. This helps infrared waves to pass through dense regions of gas and dust in space with comparatively less scattering and absorption.

Therefore, infrared energy is capable of revealing objects in the universe which are otherwise difficult to spot using other methods such as visible light or even optical telescopes.
