Geri ran in a marathon race. It took her 3 hours and 28 minutes to run 26 miles. How many minutes did it take her to run 1 mile if she ran at the same rate for a whole race? (1 hour = 60 minutes)

First, convert the time it took to run 26 miles into minutes.

3 hours, 28 minutes. 3 hours * 60minutes/1 hour=180 minutes + 28 minutes =208 minutes.

Second, create a ratio.

26 miles: 208 minutes.

Third, set up an equation to find how many minutes it took to run 1 mile.

26 miles/208 minutes = 1 mile/x

Fourth, solve for x by cross multiplying.

26x=208

Fifth, divide both sides by 26.

x=8

In conclusion, it too Geri 8 minutes to run 1 mile.

Answer:

8/mile = 8

Explanation:

convert hours to minutes. 3 hours, 28 minutes converted to minutes is...

3*60 (60 minutes in an hour)

=180

180+28 (don't forget to add what was already converted to minutes!)

=208

208/26 (divide time by distance ran)

=8 (8 minutes per mile)
