What factors led to the support a Jewish homeland after WWII? How did this initiate the ongoing conflict between the Israelis and the Arabs?

When the Ottoman Empire collapsed, a mostly Arab region, they had assimilated Jerusalem to be a region of Arab origin. Britain had took the region over until 1917, before initiating the Balfour Declaration. But, the Israelis had not been internationally recognized as a country until May 1948, when the UN declared Israel as an independent country. Just to add, the holocaust had led many jews to needing a place for themselves, due to the "Final Solution" being initatied by Adolf Hitler during WWII.
