The coordinates of point P on a coordinate grid are (-5, -6). Point P is reflected across the y-axis to obtain point Q and across the x-axis to obtain point R. What are the coordinates of points Q

and R?
O Q(5,6) and R(-5, -6)
O Q(-5, -6) and R(5,6)
O Q(-5.6) and (5,-6)
O Q(5.-6) and R(-5,6)

Option D - Q(5.-6) and R(-5,6) is the answer

Explanation:

Step 1 :

Co ordinates of the given point P = (-5, -6)

Point P is reflected across the y-axis to obtain point Q and across the x-axis to obtain point R

We need to find the co ordinates of points Q and R

Step 2 :

Point Q is obtained by reflecting the point P across the y-axis

When a point gets reflected across the y axis , y co-ordinate will be the same, and x co ordinate is changed to its negative value.

So in this case, the reflected point Q will be (5,-6)

Step 3 :

Point R is obtained by reflecting the point P across the x-axis

When a point is reflected across the x axis , the x-co ordinate remains the same, and y co ordinate is changed to its negative value.

So in this case, the reflected point R will be (-5,6)

Step 4:

Answer :

Option D - Q(5.-6) and R(-5,6) is the answer
