Gale is in the right on this situation, rather than leaving others to struggle so he can save himself, he chooses to help take a stand against injustice. He chooses the more dangerous path in order to help others in the long run. Katniss and Gale would have been, without a doubt, able to survive and maybe even thrive on their own.
