The main goal of the Inquisition was to maintain Catholic orthodoxy in the country and to deal with religious things. It was under the control of the crown.

The inquisition took place in Spain and other parts if Europe, extending all the way to America.

Jewish people were accused and arrested.

. The punishments were different depending on whether or not the guilty party had confessed to his crime. If you confessed, you got a lesser sentence and a shorter trial. Some of the convicted prisoners were asked only to pay a fine, but sometimes prisoners were sentenced to death.

The Inquisition ended in 1834.
