Explanation:

Given f(x) then f(x + a) is a horizontal translation of f(x)

• If a > 0 then shift to the left of a units

• If a < 0 then shift to the right of a units

Here f(x) is translated 3 units right, thus

g(x) = (x - 3)² - 4, hence

g(9) = (9 - 3)² - 4 = 6² - 4 = 36 - 4 = 32
