Answer and Explanation:
There could be several disadvantages of marketing animal products. Before discussing them, I would like to mention that all the disadvantages are caused by the intensive farming of animals. This is because marketing would result in increased consumer usage and put a burden on farming practices. During this process, the disadvantages could be:
Intensive pasturing leading to loss of vegetation.
- Loss of soil cover will cause intensive soil erosion.
- The food web/chain will be disturbed because of disturbing a natural ecosystem through deforestation and soil erosion activities.
- animals produce methane gas in their gut and high animal farming will increase their production. Methane is a greenhouse gas and its high concentration in the air is subject to global warming.
- If animals are sick due to diseases, and in case of outbreak, the consumer would use animal products with diseased/pathogenic elements. This could affect the health of consumers.
- Animal products is not always healthy and their should be a balance between food by plant sources and animal sources. High marketing may affect this ratio as well.
