A monkey is in a tree 50 feet off the ground and

drops a banana, which lands on a shrub 30 feet below. The
function h(t) = -16ť? + 50, where t represents the time in
seconds, gives the height h, in feet, of the banana above the
ground as it falls. When will the banana land on the shrub?

The banana will land on the shrub after 1.88 seconds

Explanation:

  • Step 1: Find the height of the shrub above the ground.

Height = 50 ft - 30 ft = 20 ft

  • Step 2: Find the time at which the banana falls on the shrub

h(t) = -16t + 50

20 = -16t + 50

-30 = -16t

∴ t = 30/16 = 1.88 seconds
