John is reading a novel. After 20 minutes of reading, John still has 204 pages of the Co novel left to read. This information is represent by y=-0.6x+216, where x is the number of minutes John spends reading, and y is the number of pages he has left to read. How many minutes will it take John to read the entire novel?

John will take 360 minutes to read the entire novel.

Explanation:

Here:

x : The number of minutes John spends reading

y : The number of pages he has left to read.

y = -0.6 x + 216

We need to find the value of x for which the pages left to be read is 0 or the book is fully completed.

Putting y = 0, in y = -0.6 x + 216 we get:

y = -0.6 x + 216 ⇒ 0 = -0.6 x + 216

or, 0.6 x = 216

or, x =
(216)/(0.6) = 360

or, x = 360 minutes

Hence, John will take 360 minutes to read the entire novel.
