Mrs. Suarez bought 3 pairs of jeans and 5 shirts for $441. If each pair of jeans cost 2/3 as much as each shirt,

Question (a): $42

Question (b): $63

Explanation:

Let's assume that X= Jeans, Y= Shirts

3x+5y= 441{ total cost of outfits bought) and from the second statement,each pair of Jean costs 2/3 of each shirt.(x=2/3×y). Substitute the second equation into the first one.

3(2/3×y)+5y=441

6y/3+5y=441

2y+5y=441

Y= 63(price of each shirt)

Substitute Y=63 in the second equation.

(X= 2/3×63)= 42(price of each pair of jeans)
