Explanation:

To find x we need an angle other than the right angle to use a trigonometric function. To do this we could either use Sine = Opposite/Hypotenuse or Cosine = Adjacent/Hypotenuse.

In this case i'll be using sine.

To find the angle that is above the right angle we need to use the inverse of Sine. Set up the equation


\sin^( - 1) = (22)/(26)

The answer to this is about 57.8. So now we have an angle to use to solve for x.

So now we set up the proportion


( \cos(57.8) )/(1) = (x)/(26)

Cross multiply.

x = 26×cos(57.8)

Put this in a calculator and x is about 13.9
