Question;

A store sells boxes of juice is equal size packs. Garth bought 18 boxes, Rico bought 36 boxes and Mia bought 45 boxes.

1. What is the greatest number of boxes in each pack?

2. How many packs did each person buy if each box contained the greatest number of boxes?

Answer:

The answers to the questions are;

1. The greatest number of boxes in each pack is 9 boxes.

2. Garth bought 2 packs

Rico bought 4 packs and

Mia bought 5 packs

Explanation:

1. Here we are required to find the Highest Common Factor, H. C. F of 18, 36 an 45

So we have
(18)/(18) , (36)/(18) , (45)/(18) which gives 1, 2, and
(5)/(2)

We therefore multiply the fractions again by 2 to get

2*(18)/(18) , 2*(36)/(18) , 2*(45)/(18) which gives
(18)/(9) , (36)/(9) , (45)/(9) = 2, 4, 5

Therefore 9 is the H. C. F which is the greatest number of boxes in each pack

That is the greatest number of boxes in each pack is 9

2. The number of packs each of them bought is given by

Garth bought 18 boxes with 9 boxes per pack = 18/9 or 2 packs of juice

Rico bought 36 boxes with 9 boxes per pack = 36/9 or 4 packs of juice

Mia bought 45 boxes with 9 boxes per pack = 45/9 or 5 packs of juice
