University Heights is a 100-unit apartment building located next to an industrial complex and strip mall shopping area. In the past 6 months, calls for service have escalated. The problems include drug dealing, gang activity, criminal mischief, shots fired and loud noise. The majority of calls are received from non-English speaking residents. The apartment manager has not been cooperative with police. Tensions between the police and residents is high. You are the police supervisor responsible for this area of town. Provide some problem-oriented policing strategies (not traditional policing strategies) on how you may respond to such a problem. Remember, traditional policing focuses on apprehension and deterrence. POP focuses on eliminating the underlying social conditions which allow for the criminality to occur.

Problem Oriented Solutions for the given area would involve finding the underlying cause of the drug related issues and possible xenophobia.

Step-by-step explanation:

Two things are evident if the validity of the calls is to be believed that the area is riddled with

A drug problem which is primarily in the native population of the area which speaks English.

Possibility of Xenophobia against the non English speaking people.

The Police force must try to find the possible drug networks in the area and then look into the dynamic of the English population with the foreign one to find a possible correlation of aberration between the two problems.
