as 70⁰F is s positive number it is greater than any negative number, to in order to see how far apart it is, you have to subtract the lower number from the higher number hence 70⁰F-(-225⁰F) because the 225⁰F is a negative that you are subtracting, 70⁰+225⁰F could also work, as the two negative cancel out
