Answer:

Emphysema may be defined as the medical condition that causes shortness of breath and creates problem in the normal breathing process. Smoking is the common cause of emphysema.

The lung structure especially alveoli and the small tissue that surround the airway are destroyed in the emphysema. Due to this reason, the bronchial tissue are also damaged and not supported by the alveoli. This causes the blockage of the airflow.
