Suppose that you have been growing pigs in your farm. In 2015, you had 25 piglets and measured birth weight in kilograms. The data were assigned in the array named weight2015 The following MATLAB commands give: mean (weight2015) ans = 1.44 >std (weight2015) ans = 0.39 Note that the answers were already trimmed up to the significant figures defined by your accuracy in weight measurement What is the population mean and the population standard deviation of piglet birth weight of year 2015 in your farm?

Answer: mean = 1.44

S.D = 0.39408

Explanation:

The population mean of piglet birth weight of year 2015 in the farm is 1.44

The population SD of piglet birth weight of year 2015 in the farm is

E(S) =[sqrt(2/(n−1)) Γ(n/2)/Γ((n−1)/2)]σ

0.39 =[sqrt(2/(25−1)) Γ(25/2)/Γ((24)/2)]σ

0.39 = 0.9896404σ

σ = 0.39/0.9896404 =0.39408
