For a shape to be defined as a quadrilateral it has to have 4 sides.

For a shape to be defined as a triangle it has to have 3 sides, with the angles adding up to 180°

For a shape to be defined as a square it has to have 4 sides and angles. The angles must add up to 360° with equal side and angle length.
