Democracy is a form of government whose meaning refers to the idea of government by the people (or the citizen). Born in ancient Greece, democracy merges with the history of philosophy.
Democracy would be the political form according to which every citizen has the right to express his opinion in a public debate and, when necessary, to vote for the decision to determine the subject. This would be the form of direct democracy.
In a direct democracy, citizens vote and express their opinion without intermediaries. However, it is a model applicable only to small populations and territories. For this reason, most democratic governments use a form of indirect democracy, representative democracy, in which political decisions are not made directly by citizens, but by representatives elected by them. Only representatives have the right to vote and it depends on the laws of each democratic country.
