Given that,

What polynomial should be subtracted from the polynomial y^2–5y+1 to get the difference equivalent to 5

Let the required polynomial be x

Therefore, according to question,


y^2-5y+1-(x)=5

We need to find the value of x


y^2 - 5y + 1 - x = 5

Keep "x" alone in left side of equation and move all other terms to left side


x = y^2 - 5y + 1 - 5\\\\x = y^2 - 5y - 4

So, the required polynomial that should be subtracted from the polynomial
y^2-5y+1 to get the difference equal to 5 is
y^2-5y-4
