Let "x" be the distance of short way

Let "y" be the distance of long way

The long way is 1.5 times as far as the short way

y = 1.5x ---- eqn 1

During one week, she bikes a total of 30 miles from school to home

Therefore,

x + y = 30

Therefore,

x + 1.5x = 30

2.5x = 30

Divide both sides by 2.5

x = 12

Given that, she took the short way 3 times

Therefore,

3 times = 12

1 time = 4

Thus distance of short way is 4 miles
