Step-by-step explanation: Absolute values means distance from zero.

If |x| = 2, that means that x's distance from zero on the number line is 2 units. So if you draw a number line like I have done on my whiteboard, you can see here are two different answers for this problem.

2 is 2 units from zero but also -2 is 2 units away from zero.

So our answer reads x = 2 or x = -2.
