Answer: B
Axillary buds near the cut end will take on root meristem identity due to the disruption of strigolactone transport, and, because root meristems are not repressed by apical dominance, they will begin to grow. The shoot will die because stems cannot produce new root meristems.
Example:
The plant isn’t able to absorb moisture because of the cut in strigolactone supply which may lead to the death of the plant. However the solution to this is by applying a rooting hormone which stimulates the cut stems to produce roots.
