3x - 2y = 4 (2)

From (1), substitute in (2)

3x - 2(5 - 2x) = 4

3x - 10 + 4x = 4

Collecting like terms

3x + 4x = 4 + 10

7x = 14

x = 2

Since x = 2

Therefore

y = 5 - 2x

y = 5 - 2(2)

y = 5 - 4

y = 1
