Answer:

x = 2 y=0

Explanation:

We can solve using elimination method

8x - 4y = 16 __________(1)

8x + 4y =16 ___________(2)

Subtract equation (2) from equation (1)

-8y = 0

Divide both-side of the equation by -8

-8y/-8 = 0/-8

y = 0

Substitute y=0 into equation (1)

8x - 4y = 16

8x - 4(0) = 16

8x = 16

Divide both-side of the equation by 8

8x/8 = 16/8

(On the left-hand side of the equation, 8 at the numerator will cancel-out 8 at the denominator leaving us with just x while on the right-hand side of the equation 16 will be divided by 8)

x = 16/8

x = 2

Therefore x = 2 and y=0
