Glycocalyx
Expla
The glycocalyx is the covering of carbohydrate that
covers the eukaryotic cells and prokaryotic cells, especially bacteria.
In eukaryotic cell, Glycocalyx is used for the recognition of the cell.
On bacterial cells,
the glycocalyx gives a defensive coat from host factors.
The ownership of a glycocalyx on microbes
is related with the capacity of the microscopic organisms to build up a contamination.
