Help me pass this class plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Dan has a board that is 54 inches long. He wishes to cut it into two pieces so that one piece will be 6 inches longer than the other. How long should the shorter piece be?


30 inches


24 inches

It would be 24 because if you did 54-24 you will get 30 and 30-24 you would get 6 so 24 is the answer

Explanation:

Since the longer one is 6 inches longer than the short one

x will represent the short one

x + 6 will represent the long one

x + (x + 6) = 54

x + x + 6 = 54

2x = 54 - 6

2x = 48

x = 48/2

x = 24 inches which means the short one is 24 inches

The longer one is = 24 + 6 = 30 inches
