Step 1: Subtract -4x from 4x.
4x + 2y = 12
-4x + 3y = 8
They would cross each other out.
Step 2: Add 2y + 3y and 12 + 8.
2y + 3y would equal 5y. Then you would add 12+ 8 which equals 20.
Step 3: Divide.
You would be left with 5y = 20 so you would divide by five. This would leave you with y = 4.
Step 4: Replace with one of the problems.
ex- 4x + 2(4) = 12.
Then you just solve. So 4x + 8 = 12 then you subtract the eight from both sides. You would be left with 4x = 4 which would leave you with x = 1.
ANSWER: X= 1 and Y= 4 or (1,4)
