How to solve -64 = -8(w+ 20)

W=-12

First you distribute the -8 using the distributive property.

So, -64= -8w-160

Next, you add 160 to both sides to put the same type of number (wand non-x) separate from each other.

The equation becomes 96=-8w

Then finally you divide -8 from both sides to get w by itself.

So 96/-8= -12.

w=-12.

Hope this helps!

Hey there!

-64 = -8(w + 20)

-64 = -8(w) - 8(20)

-64 = -8w - 160

-8w - 160 = -64

ADD 160 to BOTH SIDES

-8w - 160 + 160 = -64 + 160

CANCEL out: -160 + 160 because it gives you 0

KEEP: -64 + 160 because it helps solve for the w-value

NEW EQUATION: -8w = -64 + 160

SIMPLIFY IT!

-8w = 96

DIVIDE -8 to BOTH SIDES

-8w/-8 = 96/-8

CANCEL out: -8/-8 because it gives you 1

KEEP: 96/-8 because it helps solve for the w-value

NEW EQUATION: w = 96/-8

SIMPLIFY IT!

w = -12

Therefore, your answer is: w = -12

Good luck on your assignment and enjoy your day!
